Devlog: Upgrading the Insult Generator – Now with More Bite

Decided it was time to overhaul the insult generator. The previous setup relied on an external API, but honestly, the insults weren’t hitting hard enough. Too generic, too soft. I wanted something that really stung, something that made you question your life choices—without resorting to cheap vulgarity.

Ditching the API – Going Local with JSON

Instead of fetching insults from an external source, I now pull them from a local insults.json file. This gives me full control over the tone and style, making sure the insults are actually worth reading. They’re randomized, which means every time you hit refresh, you get a new insult… well, most of the time. Since it’s truly random, you might see the same insult twice in a row. Consider it fate telling you to take that particular roast personally.

Making the Insults Hit Harder

The new insults are blunt, sharp, and unforgiving, but they don’t rely on crude words like "horseshit" to get the point across. Instead, they cut deeper in ways that actually matter. Things like:

“You talk a big game for someone who has achieved absolutely nothing.”

or

“You could disappear for a week, and nobody would notice—or care.”

Visual Tweaks – New Gradient Design

Since I was already tweaking things, I also played around with the color scheme. The old solid colors felt a bit flat, so now the background is a gradient, making the insults look as good as they feel devastating.

Overall, the new version is meaner, cleaner, and fully under my control. No more weak API-generated insults—just pure, unfiltered verbal devastation.
